ACTIVITY :: Citizenship education

At Opinkirjo, ‘citizenship’ is understood as the feeling and experience of being heard and acknowledged in one’s surroundings.  Schools should provide pupils with functional and systematic structures, resources and support  to enable them to have a genuine say in matters that involve them – particularly club and pupil council activities.

Opinkirjo supports the development of citizenship in  children and adolescents by creating new practices and promoting positive attitudes among adults working with children in schools. The association also promotes the connection between citizenship and democracy education as well as non-formal education in forums aimed at researchers and other actors.
